
To teach pupils about the Constitution of the United States, educational facilities across the country taught and celebrated the 223rd anniversary of the signing of the document. According to Fox News, public educational institutions are all getting financing from the government to do these programs this year. ”Constitution Day and Citizenship Day” is September. 17 and has been since 2004 when the late West Virginia Sen. Robert Byrd made it law.
The beginning of Constitution Day
In 1940, Congress authorized President Franklin Roosevelt to decree the 3rd Sunday of May as “I Am an American Day,” a celebration of those who had taken the steps and obtained American citizenship. In 1952, Congress passed a law that moved the date to Sept. 17 and renamed it “Citizenship Day.”. By the time Byrd’s law passed in 2004, federal agencies were obligated to instruct employees regarding the nature of the Constitution and educational institutions that receive federal funds were obligated to provide Constitution-based education to pupils on September. 17.
